The Seventh-Generation Nissan Patrol
Published 6 September 2024
The Nissan Patrol has entered its seventh generation, marking a significant evolution in its long and storied history. Known for its off-road capabilities and commanding road presence, the new Patrol introduces a blend of heritage and modern innovation. This latest model sets a new benchmark in the large SUV segment, with features designed to perform well on both city streets and challenging terrains.
Engine Updates: From V8 to V6
One of the most notable changes in the seventh-generation Patrol is its engine line-up. Nissan has replaced the previous V8 engine with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6. This new engine produces 431 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Patrol to date. These figures represent a 7% increase in torque and a 25% boost in horsepower compared to the previous V8.
For those seeking a less powerful option, Nissan offers a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6. This engine delivers 316 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque, catering to buyers who prioritize reliability and cost-effectiveness over maximum power. Both engine options are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission designed to provide smooth power delivery in various driving conditions.
Enhanced Suspension and Off-Road Capabilities
In addition to its new engine options, the Patrol features a dynamic suspension system with e-damper technology, which automatically adjusts to driving conditions. The SUV also includes an adaptive air suspension, standard across all models, that enhances ride quality and handling on different terrains.
The Patrol offers six driving modes, including settings for sand, rock, and mud/rut, allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance to specific environments. A new transfer mode interlock system improves this versatility by automatically selecting the most suitable mode. Additionally, the “Invisible Hood View” feature, part of Nissan’s ProPilot safety suite, provides a view of the area directly beneath the vehicle, assisting drivers in navigating difficult off-road situations.
Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside, the seventh-generation Patrol aims to provide a comfortable and technologically advanced environment. The cabin features quilted leather seats with eight-way adjustment and massage functionality, inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
A new panoramic sunroof enhances the cabin’s sense of space, while the centrepiece of the interior is a 28.6-inch horizontal Monolith infotainment system, accompanied by a 14.3-inch driving display. This setup offers comprehensive control over navigation, entertainment, and vehicle information.
The Patrol also includes a 12-speaker Klipsch audio system and a 64-color ambient lighting system that allows for customization of the cabin’s atmosphere. The introduction of Biometric Cooling technology, which adjusts air conditioning based on passengers’ body temperatures, adds another layer of comfort.
Exterior Design and Features
The seventh-generation Patrol’s exterior design emphasizes strength and durability. The SUV features a wider V-motion grille and new double C-shaped headlights with Adaptive Driving Beam technology. At the rear, a full-width light bar mirrors the front grille, contributing to a cohesive design.
The Patrol comes with 22-inch alloy wheels, which provide both a strong visual impact and the ground clearance necessary for off-road driving. The vehicle is available in seven exterior colours, including four two-tone options for greater personalization.
A Puddle Lamp that illuminates the ground as the driver approaches the vehicle displays the Patrol’s silhouette and the text “Since 1951,” referencing the model’s history.
Safety and Connectivity
Nissan has equipped the new Patrol with advanced safety and connectivity features. The SUV introduces NissanConnect 2.0 with Google Built-In, offering integration with the driver’s digital life. The ProPilot Assist system enhances safety with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, while the Panorama View and Invisible Hood View features improve situational awareness.
The Patrol’s safety package includes seven airbags, intelligent emergency braking, and rear automatic emergency braking, among other features. For the first time, the Patrol also includes knee airbags for the driver.
Market Availability
The seventh-generation Nissan Patrol will be available in select Middle Eastern markets starting November 1, 2024. With its combination of power, luxury, and advanced technology, the new Patrol is positioned to be a strong contender in the SUV segment, offering a comprehensive driving experience.
