Skoda Unveils the Epiq: A Small Electric SUV

Skoda has revealed it’s first photos of the Skoda Epiq, an all-electric subcompact SUV. Slated for a 2025 release, the Epiq aims to be a compelling entry point into the world of EVs, boasting an accessible price tag and features that cater to the urban dweller.

An Electric Take on Affordability

With a targeted starting price of under £25k, the Epiq positions itself as a budget-friendly option in the growing electric vehicle (EV) market. This strategic pricing makes it a potential game-changer, opening the door for a wider range of consumers to consider electric alternatives. Skoda intends for the Epiq to be the most affordable of its six new EVs planned for launch by 2026.

The Epiq embodies Skoda’s new design language, dubbed “Modern Solid.” This translates to a rugged and purposeful aesthetic, characterised by a raised stance and a strong presence on the road. Adopting cues from the 2022 Vision 7S concept, the Epiq features a distinctive LED lighting signature and a “Tech-Deck Face” that replaces the traditional grille with a more modern design element.

While the official unveiling is yet to come, early renderings depict a vehicle roughly 4.1 meters (161.4 inches) long, similar in size to the Skoda Fabia hatchback. The focus here seems to be on maximising interior space for a comfortable driving experience. Practicality is a cornerstone of Skoda’s design philosophy, and the Epiq is expected to uphold this tradition by offering ample cargo room and clever storage solutions. Skoda state the Epiq will have up to 490 litres of luggage space.

The Škoda Epiq ‘Modern Solid’ design continues on the inside, with an emphasis on minimalism, functionality, and innovative technologies. Crafted from durable and sustainable materials, this interior features an open storage compartment housing a wireless mobile phone charger within the free-floating centre console. Additional compartments offer versatile storage solutions, complemented by signature Škoda details such as bag hooks, cargo elements, fastening hooks, and a concealed underfloor compartment in the boot.

Power and Performance

Though concrete specifications are still under wraps, the Epiq is expected to borrow the MEB Entry platform, a dedicated electric vehicle platform co-developed by the Volkswagen Group. This platform underpins other upcoming electric vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.2 and the Cupra Raval.

While official figures haven’t been released, estimations suggest that the Epiq will likely offer a choice between two battery pack options: a 38kWh and a 56kWh version. This translates to a targeted driving range of “over 248 miles,” putting it on par with competitors in the segment.

Furthermore, the Škoda Epiq supports bidirectional charging, enabling it to serve as a mobile energy storage unit capable of supplying surplus electric energy to the user’s home and other devices.
