The iconic Renault 5 returned to the spotlight at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, but this time with a modern twist – the all-electric Renault 5 E-Tech. This highly anticipated reveal pays homage to the beloved hatchback while propelling it into the future of sustainable mobility. Owners can personalise the Renault 5 with five colours: Pop Yellow, Pop Green, Midnight Blue, Pearl White and Starry Black.

A Nostalgic Nod with Modern Touches

The 5 E-Tech retains the instantly recognisable silhouette of the original, complete with the signature round headlights, sculpted bonnet, and prominent Renault badge. However, the designers haven’t simply slapped an electric drivetrain onto a classic car. The 5 E-Tech boasts a sleeker, more contemporary look. The headlights are now full-LED, and the taillights feature a stylish three-dimensional design. 

Technology at Your Fingertips

Renault 5 features 26 advanced driver-assistance systems. These include active driver assist, active emergency braking, lane departure warning, parking assist, and driver attention alert.

The car also features an infotainment system with features like navigation, smartphone connectivity, and a premium sound system.  Google and Renault connected services keep drivers connected and entertained on the go.

A Sustainable and User-Friendly Interior

The Renault 5 E-Tech’s cabin blends modern design with sustainable materials; recycled plastics and fabrics are used extensively throughout the interior. 

The minimalist dashboard contributes to a feeling of spaciousness. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum, with most functions controlled through the touchscreen infotainment system. The steering wheel features integrated controls for audio and cruise control.

Practicality and Storage Solutions

Despite it’s compact size, the cabin offers ample legroom and headroom for both driver and passengers. The rear seats can comfortably accommodate two adults on shorter journeys.

The cargo space, while not class-leading, is sufficient for everyday errands and weekend getaways.  The rear seats fold down to create additional cargo space, Additionally, cleverly designed cubbyholes and storage compartments are scattered throughout the cabin.

Power and Range

The Renault 5  electric motor, coupled with a 52 kWh battery pack, promises a driving range of up to 400 kilometres (248 miles) according to the WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedures) cycle. This makes the 5  suitable for most daily commutes and even occasional longer trips. While official performance figures haven’t been released yet, the car is expected to offer a sprightly acceleration, making it perfect for navigating city streets.

The car also features regenerative braking, which helps to extend the driving range by capturing energy during deceleration. 

Charging Capabilities

 The car supports both AC and DC fast charging, allowing owners to top up the battery quickly and conveniently. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes, making long-distance journeys less stressful.

If you purchase the optional adapter you can make use of the  bi-directional charger and send electricity to your devices to power them or recharge them – handy for air pumps, electric bikes etc.

Availability and Pricing

While official pricing has not been announced, the Renault 5  is expected to be competitively priced within the B-segment electric vehicle market. The launch is slated for later in 2024, with pre-orders expected to begin soon.
